Isto Rahkila & Teemu Ruissalo — gifts
29.7-4.8.2024
(Updated schedule below)
“gifts” is a week-long series of instances that sprout from a shared view on sound, performance, and documentation. The straightforward idea is to play score-based material assigned to each of the artists every other day. The material — left-overs, if you will — is then installed in the space in various congenial forms of in situ documentation. Both artists work with paper, audio, spoken instances, and photos + video to amass the exhibition space by the end of the week. Most of the material used to carry on these acts, are also left out in the space with no clear foundation or specific gallery tradition. The ephemeral courtesies are also variable, given their time of perpetration and interaction with different mundane substances, enhancing the art’s anachronistic spirit.
As a detached detail, is a text written by Rasmus Östling covering the artists work in a more or less deceptive manner.

////////////
Isto Rahkila (b. 1998, Hämeenlinna) is a Turku based sound- and performance artist. Last years he has been working more and more with sound, performance – and as he would say – conceptual temporary stuff. Common thing in his practice is a site- or situation-specific approach where he often works in contact with the environment, whether it is nature, interiors or urban areas. Listening is a big part of Rahkilas work, which includes both the internal and external perception.
Teemu Ruissalo (b. 2000, Merikarvia) is a Helsinki-based conceptual artist and event organizer. Ruissalo’s recent work consider relational, utilitarian and contemporary-/anachronistic means of presentation through audio, text, and performance-related intermedia. Varying mundane and literal forms of documenting each afterlife is the core momentum in Ruissalo’s work.
From idea-driven happenings to traditional music shows, Ruissalo has organized tens of events in the past years. Ruissalo also hosts ”bistro”, a loose-wrist and non-profit forum for international artists accompanied by an even more lazily moderated archive.
