“Hybrid Cultures”

Hybrid Cultures is a 30 hour audioperformative piece, created as a collaborative multidisciplinary effort by Latvian artist Erix Aboltins, Ukrainian artist Maria Aristova and Finnish/Russian artist Serafima Parland.

The sociological concept of cultural hybridization describes the synthesis of different cultures. The collaborative piece Hybrid Cultures uses this concept as basis for exploration of an arising new culture, born from the next generation stemming from countries under differing but interconnected circumstances.
The mediums used are movement, sound and time.

The full artwork is performed and exhibited over a period of 7 days.

Erix Aboltins (2003, Riga) is a sound artist and musician with a deep focus on drone, noise and experimental soundscape creation. After becoming consumed with modular synthesizers in 2017, he quickly started establishing himself as an industrial and post-industrial live electronic music performer on both sides of the Baltic Sea.
Erix is based in Helsinki since August 2021.

Maria Aristova
(2000, Kharkiv) is an actress and poet. As a graduate of the Actor of Theatre and Cinema program at Kyiv University of Culture, Maria is currently part of the Vikart Theatre, known for its focus on anti-war themes and Ukrainian new drama.
Maria is based in Helsinki since March 2022.

Serafima Parland (2004, Helsinki) is an emerging visual and performance artist currently studying Cross-Disciplinary Strategies at die Angewandte in Vienna. Having grown up between Finland and Russia, her works draw inspiration from the intersection of cultural divides and human connections.
Serafima is based in Vienna since 2024.

Set design and costumes by Riim Toubji and Henna Laine.

Riim Toubji is a Finnish Palestinian textile artist who majored in textile and fashion.

Henna Laine is a recently graduated fashion designer. Her most recent collection ”Echo” a is monochromatic, all black collection. The pieces are made of already existing materials and self dyed. She finds it important to create sustainable and slow fashion.

The piece and exhibition are produced and curated by Sofia Parland upon commission by Ad Astra rf.
